Art On The Water - About Salina - By Salina Kalnins

Salina Kalnins has always had a love for the water. There has always been an attraction and desire for her to re-create the reflective and translucent qualities

of lakes, oceans, and rivers.

Salina earned a BA in Fine Art and Ecology from Olivet College in Michigan. After graduation, she moved to the Florida Keys where she worked as an art consultant in Key West for world-renown marine wildlife artist Wyland.

She also attended Seacamp in Big Pine Key which was a marine-biology summer camp. While living in the Keys, she was an avid boater, worked for a charter boat company, and was deep-sea fisherman.

Combining her love for water and art, she began to excel at nautically themed paintings and drawings incorporating the boats of her neighbors and friends in her paintings.

Since moving back to Michigan in 2000, Salina's artwork has been featured nationally in Power & Motoryacht Magazine, as well as being commissioned to create artwork for the promotional posters for the 2016 Milwaukee Boat Show and 2016 Grand Rapids Boat Show.

Many of Salina's commissioned works have been created for our UNITED STATES NAVY.  She has completed over 150 chart paintings of Naval vessels currently on deployment all over the world, including nuclear destroyers, helicopters, submarines, and aircraft carriers.

During the summer, if Salina is not out fishing, she can be found selling her artwork in some of Michigan's finest art fairs. Salina's studio and business, Art On The Water, is located in southern mid-Michigan, nestled between the Great Lakes where she spends most of her time constantly surrounded by the inspiration of nature, water, boats, and people who love the same things.
